What is Veganism?

A Vegan is a person who does not support, promote, or personally eat or use animal products and bi-products.

Diet

A Vegan only eats food that comes from plants. People often refer to it as a plant-based diet. A plant-based diet means only eating fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, and anything that the earth provides from the grounds or trees.

We do not support the consumptions of any and all meat from animals such as beef, pork, chicken, fish, crab, squid. We also do not consume eggs, gelatin, dairy or honey. To put it simply, if it came from an animal, we do not eat it. Contrary to this weird belief that fish are not meat, it is. If it bleeds, if it cries for its life, if it had a family, we do not eat it.

Another thing to take not of when going vegan is the way some foods are processed or filtered. For example, some countries use fish bones in the process of making white sugar. Another example is how some alcoholic beverages is filtered using fish bladders.

Fashion

There are many different types of fabrics that can be used in clothing and in fashion like cotton, canvas, denim, etc. and those are derived from plants. Unfortunately, there are different fabrics that are not vegan.

Vegans do not wear or use fur, leather, suede, wool, silk, and more fabrics that are derived from animals. If you’d like to see a more detailed list you can search here to see which fabrics are cruelty-free, and which are not. Vegans do not support this because it is a cruel process, and is not worth the pain and suffering of other beings.

Beauty/Household Products

You’re probably wondering why beauty and household products are here, and the answer is not pretty. Unfortunately since most of those products use many different chemicals they test these on animals. They test them in their eyes, skin, and see how they react to it. Some animals only know a life of cruelty and pain because of this and only live inside testing labs. So best to make sure your products are not tested on innocent beings. The best way to avoid animal testing in your products is by going for natural products without the harmful chemicals because they will less likely be testing on animals because all the ingredients are not dangerous to the body.

Entertainment

Have you ever gone to a zoo or watch a dolphin show? Pretty much paying to see animals outside of their natural habitat and being exploited for the sake of entertainment. Vegans do not support the exploitation of innocent beings. We believe they should be left in peace in their natural habitat. When we remove animals from their natural habitat, they no longer get to live the way nature intended for them to live.

LIVE IN COMPASSION

No vegan is perfect, we know that. We simply try to live by causing the least possible harm to the sentient beings around us. We do our best to lessen the pain and suffering in the world through our daily actions.

EDUCATE YOURSELF

Interested in going vegan? The most important thing is to educate yourself! You can do this by watching documentaries, reading books, watching videos online, reading blogs/articles online, or even just making conversation with other vegans.
