So I decided to start running. I never did enjoy running before, mostly because it was hard for me to get my breathing right. So I would always try to avoid it as much as possible. I didn’t avoid it too much though, I’d run once in a while, or do a few sprints, but it wasn’t my go-to because I’d much rather get on a bike, lift some weights, or just walk.
I wanted to challenge myself to do something I normally wouldn’t because it’s during those times when we get stronger. We learn more about ourselves, and we achieve things we never thought we would. When we conquer our fears and accomplish challenges, we grow and we get stronger. But to be honest, a part of me decided to announce this because it would help keep me on track. No turning back when there are people watching you. The possible chance that someone is watching you will definitely give a little extra push.
So my 30 days begins. 30 days of an abundance of raw fruits and veggies and running everyday for at least 30 minutes, looks pretty easy in writing. What do I want to gain from this? Just so everyone is aware, I am not doing this for weight loss. I am doing this for personal strength, mental and physical. I am doing this to challenge myself. I’m not doing this to punish my body, I am doing this to reward it. I’m also doing this because it’s a part of my personal “Happiness Project”, but I’ll get into that some other time.
So it’s pretty simple right?
30 Minutes (minimum, I do intent to get to running longer)
So let’s get to my first day of my #runningraw30 challenge…
I woke up feeling great even though I was trying to catch up on sleep lost during the weekend to say goodbye to a dear dear friend and stuffing my face with a ton of plain mashed potatoes with calamansi the night before. I was able to get out of the house and on the road for a run with my sister. She enjoys running and does it often so she had to go a lot slower than usual to keep up with me.
Since it was my first day running again, I had to take it easy since I have never gotten injured from exercising and have no plans of getting injured. Proper form and breathing is extremely important when it comes to running, and I know that. The last thing I wanted was to get injured on the very first day. Took it slow and started with just 30 minutes around our village which does have quite a few uphills which really give you a bit more of a challenge. It was definitely nice having the sun shining on my (peeling) skin though as well as the intense sweat leaving my body.
I only did 3.3km in todays 30 minutes, I figured I should note down my distances so I could monitor my improvements. Keep in mind that I’m no runner, so this was already good enough for me. The most I’ve ever ran straight in the past was just 6.6km, and this was around 3 years ago. I’ve never actually attempted to run that distance again in a long time.
Here’s a quick view of what I ate on day 1:
Breakfast: Passionfruit & Jackfruit
Lunch: Honeydew Melon & Carob Daterade
Dinner: Pineapple Juice with Chia Seeds & Big Salad- Romaine, Mango, Avocado, Cherry Tomatoes, Calamansi, Pepper and Chili Flakes
I also had lots of fresh buko juice (coconut water) and lots of water throughout the day to make sure I was properly hydrated!
This was a pretty good start, and I already feel like I’ll be able to get through this. Although at the same time I am absolutely terrified. I’m hoping 30 days straight won’t kill me. But then again, eating a high carb, low-fat, raw, plant-based diet really helps in recovering so much faster so I’m not worried about my body not being able to handle it.
